Introductions[]

  • "Hail Rastafari, his Emperial Majesty Haile Selassie I. Free Africa now, 'cause Africa no free, I'n'I no hunger-free, you no see? This is the Rastaman Vibration!" – Marley before "Positive Vibration"
  • "Yes, it's a conscious time now and people must come together in Inity, and you know what? Yes, everbody have the answer, everyone have the answer! You don't fool yourself, everyone have the answer. Everyone knows what, that can bring this Inity. People, don't make them yours, oh no!" – Marley before "No Woman, No Cry"
  • "Yes, Haile Selassie I, you know. Today is for one consciousness, for the freedom of Africa. If African don't feel free, no one will be free. And every man have a right to decide his own destiny, for the destiny must be decided, it must be good for the people. Let's go! – Marley before "Zimbabwe".
  • "Woman and children shall fight this revolution, 'cause I'n'I want to be free. And now we can be free. We must be free! You know, 400 years plus, much in this captivity. So we wanna go home to our yard. Rastafari know that. Yes! Don't make propaganda lead you astray, false rumours and false propaganda. Haile Selassie is the Almighty! Zimbabwe must be free. Jah seh by 1983 Africa must be free. So every man have a right to decide his own destiny. Yes, Rastafari! Hear all mi bredren and mi sisters, you know, to dare the fighting for our natural struggle to free Africa, yeah! You know, we must say "Wake Up And Live", and it is from our new album called "Survival". You know what I mean. Yeah! Sing it again, look at that!" – Marley before "Wake Up And Live"
  • "Come on now. Put your feet to the dust, you got to be just y'all. Whoa yeah. A people without the knowledge of their past history is like a tree without roots, whoa! We wanna go home to our yard. Someone should dare telling to… telling to the intelligence, yeah! Come on down y'all with me. Wow, look out! You know, ey, people, people, people, people, people, people! We must be brothers and sisters and not people, if we're people, then people would use us. We got to be brothers and sisters, you hear what I'm saying? If we're just saying that then they gone use us. Yeah! We smoke the herb, so we can get one meditation. You see, if we all smoke herb we would think the same way, and if we think the same way, we could be in unity, and they don't want to see us in unity, come on children. You know what I'm talking about. Get this thing together, come on y'all. Uh yeah! I could not make a speech, baby, but I can tell you I wanna fight for my rights. I'm a Rastaman and we are Rasta people. Consciousness cover the earth. Ey sisters, could y'all me sing the song, I wanna sing "Wake Up And Live" one more time, come on with me. Look out! Watch me! Awake from your sleep and slumber, emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our mind. You know what I'm saying, yeah! 17:13, Jah seh him would return within 2000 years, and now is 1979, baby, you got 21 years to go. Come on! Babylon burning! This vibration, they can't make us stop, burning! Yes, the people want the freedom, no more force, free the people. You know something […] Wake up and live! Yes, that's what it's all about. We got to unite, we got to come together. We could be united in our homes, but we got to be united on the streets, too. You know what? We got to unite for one thing, and I tell you now: And if we're taking fifteen more years to find out you'll find out that Rastafari is the Almighty. Rastafari is the almighty God with no apology. Tell the preachers, tell the teachers to teach the children the truth, yeah! I'm sorry I've talked so much, baby, but… yeah, my brothers and my sisters, when got to talk to you, what's the use of this singing like a, some type of [shout]. You know, it's time, and I leave you right now here with you 'cause I say it's time for us to be free! Free!" – Marley during "Wake Up And Live"

Trivia[]

  • two AUD complete sources are circulating, as well as a slightly incomplete SBD and a video source.
  • AUD source 1 cuts in at the end of Dick Gregory's speech. "Lively Up Yourself" fades in at the beginning and then has slightly worse sound, but improves during the song. It cuts in before Marley's introduction to "Zimbabwe".
  • AUD source 2 has been released on a bootleg and it has more dull sound and is slightly sped up, but it features the complete intros of "Lively Up Yourself" and "Zimbabwe". There is also a third generation tape transfer circulating which has much better and clearer sound.
  • the SBD source is good quality as well; parts of it have been released on the mislabeled bootleg "Brisbane Australia '79". There's a cut during "Exodus".
  • the video source is the most complete source. Various complete and incomplete sources from one camera in decent quality have circulated, as well as a complete multi-camera edit. One inferior source also features the complete speech by Dick Gregory.
  • first live performance of "Zimbabwe" and "Wake Up And Live".
  • rare 1979 performance of "Slave Driver".
  • encore break after "Exodus".
  • band intros done by Junior Marvin during "Wake Up And Live".
